G'Day Sizzlers!

Ever wonder if technology controls you rather than you controlling technology? I think the premise is that technology should make our lives easier, however I sometimes think we are slaves to our tech toys! This week Gear Grinders makes a return with an opinion piece from Peter. I will be featuring any interesting technology related forums, our Sizzler Forum members start in the future. The topics do not have to be purely about the Web or Web Design and Programming, but they do need to involve something that would be of interest to Sizzler Newsletter readers to be featured.

Kevin has a couple of interesting articles, one of which goes into the basics of obtaining visitors IP addresses for logging and tracking purposes.

I have also put in a reminder of what a great service is offered by Sausage Domains. There is money to be saved by swapping to this service. I swapped all of my personal domains over a while ago.

Read, learn and implement!

Keep on sizzling!

  Tips and Tricks

Visitors' IP Addresses

A powerful way to show would-be abusers you mean business in tracking them down is if you can show them you have their IP Address before they start.

This article will show you how to record and display a visitors' IP address.

Time to get back to some old fashioned values?

Peter explores if we have all gone a little technology mad. Are some of us staying on the cutting edge just so we can say we are? Is some of the new technology out there really necessary for us?

Saving Time With Bulleted Lists

This week I want to give an example of how HotDog allows me to improve my customer service and reduce my costs in doing so. This is a powerful factor in business success and can only benefit you and your client.

For whatever reason my clients cannot insert bullet points in the texts they email me. Bullet points are an efficient way of getting large amounts of information across quickly. They are an effective tool and are here to stay. Therefore I have to show some flexibility in amending the lists for them even though it cuts into my time and costs me money, reducing my profit margin.

Then I discovered HotDog's Insert List. In one easy step I have the speed, precision and control that I demand. I can now create lists exactly as my clients want them - quickly. Quite simply, it doesn't get any easier than this. Even my most experienced colleague cannot hand-code quicker than this function, saving me time and money with each email my clients' send.

All you have to do is highlight the text you want to bullet or list. You can then access the Insert List function by going to Format | Convert on the main menu - or more easily by right- clicking your mouse - and then select 'Convert Selection to Bulleted List'.

In one easy step you are given all the available options, making this function valuable for beginners and professionals alike. You can continue to edit your code within the text box, select the list type, the numbering style and a heading for completeness. When you press OK all the code is automatically inserted for you. It's as easy as that!

You can also do nested lists by repeating the function for each sub-list. This effectively does away with proof-reading when it all goes wrong when hand-coding thereby enhancing its value even more.

So the next time you need to do a list just type, copy or import your text in HotDog and run the Insert List function and see for yourself why HotDog is the Professionals' choice that is as easily at home for beginners.
